Objectives and Procedures

The Network acts as a link between policies and strategies, on the one hand, and practices and results on the other.

More specifically, the Network works on improving methods designed to facilitate the implementation of strategies for poverty alleviation and the reduction of inequalities.

It is the Network’s ambition to combine experience and knowledge from different sources and create synergies among the various disciplines and professions. This will enable it to guide political choices, justify research orientations, influence the content of development-related professions, and contribute to the renewal of international cooperation.

The Network publishes notes, articles, books and reports ; it organises meetings, workshops and training sessions ; it also coordinates investigation missions and initiates research projects. Its work reflects a dual approach, aiding partner countries and supporting French public policy on cooperation.

Above all, the Network aims to provide operational support and contribute to debate, in an effort to serve both the authorities and social stakeholders.

Organisation

The Network promotes exchanges and cooperation among colleagues working in government administrations, local authorities, research bodies, universities, consulting firms and solidarity associations, primarily in France, but opening on to Europe, Africa and the international scene.

Since December 2002, a steering and coordination committee has been responsible for defining and monitoring the Network’s strategic framework and the main lines of its work. It is composed of twenty members drawn from the various professional horizons the Network seeks to bring together.

A two-member secretariat is responsible for conducting the programme of work and running the Network. Network activities are now focused on four key theme

Membership

The distinguishing feature of a network, as opposed to a more formal organisation, is its flexibility. Our "membership criterion" is limited to an interest in the issues we address and the objectives we strive to attain. Network "members" include all those who contribute to our activities by making available their experience and reflections. Contributions can be occasional or regular, oral or written, and may take a variety of forms : reading notes, reports on experiences, position statements, participation in the workshops or seminars, investigation missions, training sessions, etc. All submissions are welcome.

Funding

The Network receives financial backing from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Direction générale de la Coopération internationale et du développement / DGCID). Staff are also assigned to help run the Network (IRD, CIRAD, GRET)
